The following know the answer to this question: Rick Warren, author of the bestseller Purpose Driven Life has sold over a million copies; Max Lucado also a Christian bestselling author and writer, along with Joyce Meyer a bestselling author and bible teacher have all got ministries /gifts that are reaching the world, not just Christians!
What would have happened if Edison had allowed a limited education, financial difficulty and a disability to hold him back? We’d all possibly be without electricity and using candles or lamps, oh wait those where inventions by others who decided to use their talent!
“Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration” Thomas Edison. Read about his early life here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Edison
What would have happened if Bill Gates had refused to use his talent because he was too frightened or had too many knockbacks?
The bible says he gave gifts unto man – Ephesians 4: 8. Read the whole passage to learn the purpose of this. The question here is:
What is in your hands?
The Parable of the Ten Virgins
Teaches us to prepare and not take our salvation or position for granted. Those 5 wise virgins who understood that PREPARED, the 5 foolish ones did not understand the need to prepare even though they were already chosen to meet the bridegroom – they took their position for granted so failed to take extra oil for their lamps.
The Parable of the Talents
The King represents God who gave his servants (some bible translations say, stewards) talents according to their ability. The stewards who used their talents actually went out there into the market place inspite of the fear of losing their masters money. Do you think they just entered into trading ‘willy nilly’? They must have observed other traders and as loyal stewards observed their master on several occasions, if not, why would he entrust them? He knew their capabilities, the question was did they know what was in their hands?
Use Your Potential
Everyone has gifting and what a lot of people don’t realise is, because it’s a gift does not mean you shouldn’t nurture, grow or enhance it. That’s where the 5 foolish virgins got it wrong. They felt they were already qualified as potential brides so no preparation was needed? Right? Wrong!
Coming back to the parable of the talents, the steward with the lesser talent revealed his motivation for doing nothing, which was FEAR! His belief system was surrounded in fear, doubt and unbelief which spoke loud and clear in his actions or in this case inaction!
Did he have the same opportunities around him that the other two stewards had? Yes, he did, but he chose to be paralysed by fear.
He obviously didn’t know about that scripture that says:
“ …Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all” Ecclesiastes 9:10-11(KJV -Read from the beginning of the chapter, the them referred to is Christians and non Christians alike!)

The lesson here is, God has given each of us talents to use for his glory and to benefit others outside of our church community. The only limitations are the ones in our minds. If you fail to recognise your gift or nurture it, how can you glorify God or impact others for the Kingdom of God? Or how can you truly reach your grave empty like the late Pastor Myles Munroe taught. If you sit on your hands you become like the foolish virgins and fearful servant. Step out inpite of fear and do great things for God. 😀
