How To Know Your God Given Purpose

In 2018 Chadwick Boseman gave the commencement address at his alma mater, Howard University to the graduating students about finding their God-given purpose and destiny…

It resonates so much more now for more for the following reasons:-

  • I had no idea of who he was until Black Panther which I had refused to watch until earlier this year at the height of the lockdown. I thought it was some silly Hollywood misrepresentation of African culture, I hasten to add I was wrong.
  • I am discovering after his demise what a phenomenal, humble, loving and wonderful human being he was.
  • He mentioned being the seed that others enjoyed the harvest of quoting scripture 1 Corinthians 3 verse 6, he said, “I planted the seed and Apollos watered it, but God kept it growing.”

I know exactly how that feels having planted a few things and then seemingly having been relegated to the background. I am now proud to be in the same company as Chadwick who moved on to greater and better things discovering his true purpose in the process. This is what prompted this post.

How To Know Your God-Given Purpose

Contrary to popular belief people don’t just stumble into their purpose, they get there through a series of events.

Sometimes these series of events may look like they are man-made, but God somehow is in the background orchestrating things. Just as Chadwick said in his address he was fired for speaking his mind and struggling to compromise.

You might feel the same way, however, it’s important to note that you know your God-given purpose by coming to the realisation of the following:-

  • You have standards which you must uphold; when you compromise you lose out on what God has for you.
  • God says it best in his word in Jeremiah 29 verse 11, “The plan I have for you is of good and not of evil to give you a future and a hope.”
  • You might be tempted with wrong situations that will take you done wrong paths and lead you away from your purpose, but deep down you know what you should do.
  • Not every door that opens is the right one or the one you should go through, be discerning.
  • Everyone has a God-given purpose which is built into our DNA, we just need to learn to discover what it is.
  • There are always clues in your life and experiences that reveal what your purpose is, learn to recognise them.
  • You will need to train and grow into your purpose.

Sometimes you might stumble into your destiny or sometimes you might walk into it; however, you do it there will be experiences personal to you that will enable you to fulfil God’s call on your life.

Do you know your God predestined purpose? What are you doing or can you do to fulfil it? Do share your insights in the box below.

RIP Dr Chadwick Boseman.
